Understanding Anger 2
Mr. Jackson
: I don’t think so. I saw you take the gum off the shelf and put it in your pocket.
Anna
: No, I didn’t take it. I told you, I bought it yesterday!
Mr. Jackson
: But I saw you take it out of your pocket.
Anna
: That’s because it was in my pocket when I walked in the store. You should be careful before you
accuse people.
Mr. Jackson
: Kids like you always take things. Everybody helps himself these days!
Anna
: You don’t even know me. I would never do that. I always pay for my stuff.
Mr. Jackson
: I’ll let you go this time, but don’t try that again. I won’t be as nice the next time.
Anna
: (
to herself
) Nice? He thinks he’s being nice?
(Scene changes to Anna’s house.)
Anna
: Mom, that man at the store is a real jerk!
Mom
: What do you mean? What happened?
Anna
: He accused me of stealing the gum I bought yesterday. All I did was put a piece in my mouth
and he rushed right over to accuse me! Oooh, I’m so mad!
Mom
: That’s too bad. What happened next?
Anna
: He kept accusing me, but he finally let me go. It was so unfair!
Mom
: You’re right. It was unfair. What made you angry about it?
Anna
: He accused me of being like every other kid, stealing whatever they want. But I told him I would
never do that, and I never would.
